Frobisher takes on Melbourne
By Georgia Langridge & Lucy Van Deursen, Interior Designers
There was excitement here at Frobisher HQ last week, as three of our designers tripped over to Melbourne, to “Indesign: the event”, which took place on 12th and 13th August. The exhibition “brings together members of the design industry in a creative format that’s immersive and interactive, social and fun!”
Over this two day event, time was spent dedicated to learning, playing and exploring, which included industry talks, workshops and architecture tours. While also visiting projects in the Melbourne suburbs Richmond and Collingwood – showcasing commercial and residential design, and supplier show rooms.
During our time in Melbourne we noticed a definitive trend occurring. Colour palettes were refined in layers of neutral tones, accented with organic highlights. This could be seen through uses of deep sea blue tones, and various foliage and plant life. The sophisticated juxtaposition created an extremely timeless and relaxing atmosphere.
We are still seeing a nod to the forever desired ‘Deco theme’. Scalloped shapes and mixed metals were featured in these classic interiors of sumptuous velvets and gorgeous cottons textures.
A quirk was seen to be integrated through large scale lighting. This in effect defined the space and became a piece of art in itself.
After seeing what Melbourne has to offer, we are feeling very excited about bringing these ideas back Christchurch. With new suppliers and fresh ideas, make sure you keep your eyes peeled for the new stock coming soon to our Frobisher studio!
